Lists of lists

We've been very busy beavers the last two weeks, which means we've up to our necks in lists. We have work to-do lists, personal to-do lists, work logs, personal done-that files, expenses lists, financial allocations, a list of problems with the house, inventory lists, lists of physical therapy exercises, and on and on. What we need now is a list of lists so we can keep track of them all. Okay, I've written something in Blogger today. (Yay! Now I can move that item from the to-do list to the done-that list!)

Checklists

This week I'm going through a couple of checklists in each of our labs at work as part of the annual safety inspection. My findings are consistent with those described in the Checklist Manifesto:
1. Nobody wants to do them. It is assumed they are a waste of time that somebody else is making us do.
2. They consistently point out glaring problems that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
3. A short checklist is more effective than a long detailed one.
